Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is improving the quality of its social housing stock whilst supporting the local economy, by sourcing its replacement windows and doors from Bowater Projects, with Remploy as a supply chain partner.

Working with Merthyr Council’s own Housing Repairs and Maintenance Department, Bowater Projects has installed over 1700 PVC-U casement windows and doors in more than 250 properties.

Each window and door has been fabricated by the Merthyr division of Remploy; the UK’s largest employer of disabled and disadvantaged people. Remploy Merthyr employs 50 staff and can manufacture over 300 windows and doors per week for installation programmes across South Wales.

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council procured the windows through the LHC Network’s pre-tendered OJEU compliant framework arrangement for PVC-U windows and doors. Bowater Projects is an approved supplier to the framework arrangement, which offers a ‘fast track’ procurement route that allows improvement works to start on site more quickly.
